Story Writing for Teens

An introductory story writing course for high school students taught by Mrs. Melissa Sweeney, MA, this course is appropriate for students grades 8-12, or ages 13-18. Mrs. Sweeney will guide students through the process of story writing including character, plot, dialoque and style, assigning homework to be done during the rest of the student's school week. Students will submit their work for feedback and an optional grade. By the end of this course, your student will have written a 10-15 page short story.

High schoolers who successfully complete this course can receive (from parent-educator) one semester credit in Creative Writing.

 

Prerequites

Previous writing experience required. Students need to submit a story written with structure and style (from a previous writing course) for instructor approval before registering for this course. (Send to melissa@seeitexcellent.com with student's first and last name and grade level.)

 

Meeting Schedule

  • 50-60 minute live class meetings.
  • Meets 16 times during spring semester.
  • Wednesdays, 1:30PM PST/4:30PM EST.
  • First class on January 6th and last class on May 5th, 2027.

 

Notes

This course is non-secretarian and therefore eligible to be paid with charter school funds. 

 

Families with multiple students will receive a 50% discount on tuition for subsequent registered siblings. Also, a referral credit of $40 will be awarded to any family who refers another registered student/family.
