Fun With Writing
An introductory writing course for the upper grammar student taught by Mrs. Melissa Sweeney, MA English, this course is appropriate for students grades 3 and 4 and 5th and 6th graders with little to no formal writing instruction.
Throughout this course, we will switch between creative and academic writing, focusing on structure and style. Mrs. Sweeney will introduce the new structure and style and assign homework to be done the rest of the student's school week. Students will receive oral feedback from the instructor on each writing assignment and be encouraged to fill out their own checklists. Some of the fun topics we will cover are fables, animals, men who changed the world, and more! This course is non-secretarian and therefore eligible to be paid with charter school funds.
This full year, 30-week course, will meet for 45 minutes per week on Wednesdays at 2:45-3:30PM PST/5:45-6:30PM EST starting on August 26th, 2026.
Every family will need a copy of the student book: All Things Fun and Fascinating linked here. There are 37 used copies available on Amazon. Please buy the best condition you can afford as copies marked "Acceptable" or "Good" will have writing in them. You could also check homeschool curriculum groups on Facebook and online used book stores.
Payment: The price of this course includes a credit card processing fee. Use manual payment after checkout to set up a payment plan and avoid extra fees. An $50 non-refundable deposit holds your student's spot. You can pay the remaining balance with monthly payments or in full before the class begins.
Discounts: Manual payment price for this course is $450, and payment plans are available. Families with multiple students will receive a 50% discount on tuition for subsequent registered siblings. Also, a referral credit of $50 will be awarded to any family who refers another registered student/family.
