An introductory writing course for the upper grammar student taught by Mrs. Melissa Sweeney, MA English, this course is appropriate for students grades 3 and 4 and 5th and 6th graders with little to no formal writing instruction. Throughout this course, we will switch between creative and academic writing, focusing on structure and style. Mrs. Sweeney will introduce the new structure and style and assign homework to be done the rest of the student's school week. Students will receive oral feedback from the instructor on each writing assignment and be encouraged to fill out their own checklists. Some of the fun topics we will cover are fables, animals, men who changed the world, and more! This full year, 30-week course, will meet for 45 minutes per week on Wednesdays at 2:45-3:30PM PST/5:45-6:30PM EST starting on August 25th, 2026 with our last class on April 28, 2027 (includes holiday breaks in November, December, February and March).
